The 2026-2027 FAFSA will be released on October 1, 2025. Now that filling out the FAFSA is a graduation requirement for Oklahoma high school students, this is the best time to start preparing for the application so you can get the application completion you need for high school and the aid you need for college.
There are two important things you can do right now to prepare for the FAFSA – gather the necessary documentation and register yourself and your contributors for your StudentAid.gov accounts.
The list of documents required isn’t long, but is very important. It’s necessary to make sure all of your information is accurate on both your FAFSA and that of your contributors, so we recommend having those documents in front of you as you work on your application.
A full list of the required documents can be found on our Items Needed to Complete a FAFSA publication at UCanGo2.org.
For now, if you can gather a Social Security number for yourself and your contributors, plus their dates of birth, current addresses, and email addresses, you can go to StudentAid.gov and register for your accounts.
Your StudentAid.gov accounts are necessary for you and your contributors to access and sign your FAFSA, and it will be impossible to complete it without an account. If you’re unsure what to do to get your account, you can use our StudentAid.gov Account Worksheet – it will guide you step by step through the process.
If you’re unsure whether you need a contributor to sign your FAFSA with you, or who your contributor should be, you can use our Dependency Status Questionnaire and our Who Needs a StudentAid.gov Account? flowchart to help you with those questions.
You should have plenty of time before the FAFSA opens to get these things figured out.
Good luck!
